Is anyone here a do-it-yourself-er? Specifically when it comes to clothing? I can't be the only one... I thought we might exchange pictures and ideas of clothes we've made or modified. So, I guess I'll start.

Here's a skirt I just finished. (I don't think I'll wear it in public until I add a bit more fabric, although it could work as a micromini).

I mainly DIY as much as possible. Currently I'm trying to build a frame for my 2 jigsaw puzzles. As for clothes... I've only gone as far as "modding" them, ie. printing stuff onto them. I can't sew for nuts.

I totally hae no skills in making clothing. I can't even design. Well, I can't draw. I can think of styles in my head, but I can't put them on paper. :3 the skirt looks cool, too short for my tastes, though. :D

I've sewn a few clothes of mine, though I'm still needing a pre-made pattern. ^^;; I'd like to design my own, but I don't know how to make the patterns for them. So far, I've made 3 skirts and 2 pairs of PJs. It's great when you've finished the garment, but when you make a mistake and have to do unpick it.. it's an absolute pain -.-;;

->Laavabepp: i don't use a sewing machine, just a big needle and some embroidery thread. i hope my clothes don't fall apart...
->Dmytrin: I too mostly just mod clothes. the skirt used to be a pair of jeans, so i didn't have much sewing to do.
->shinotenshi, Pikachu: thank you! i still haven't worn it in public yet...

So, does anyone else have pictures? (I have a few more, nothing that's really awesome or anything...)

okay, i'll have to find some place to wear that skirt to but right now the weather's a bit chilly and i just got my wisdom teeth out so i'm not going anywhere.

here are two more things... shirts i messed up a bit. the first one is just painted with fabric paints (a dragonfly) and i slit the sleeves (but you can't see in the pic). in the second one is a detail from a tanktop i added ruffles and buttons and a flower patch to. i wore this one to school a few times and when i went to the city. people seemed to like it, so it's my fave.

:O! fabric paint? i'd love to try those. >.< your creations are awesome!

DIY, not just yet. i've just gotten over my fear of the sewing machine (fuahaha), and my friends and i have an old pile of fabrics we bought last year sitting around. we're thinking of looking into patterns so we don't mess up. XD

uh, in short, still in the "dreaming" stage. we'll get there... sometime. @D@

thanks everyone for all your kind words! i never really thought about selling the clothes i've done... *ponder*

what i did think of once was making a site for people to show off their DIY clothes and share tips and stuff. the site didn't get too far past planning.

-> Scarlett Fire: cool. :) just get some initiative and get started~

Maybe you could start a career as a clothes designer. How did you manage to paint the dragonfly with such detail?

:D clothes designer is one of my dream jobs. there is little job security in it though so it would only be a side project...
- painted dragonfly by using small brushes i usually use with watercolours and a small stencil brush to do some shading.

bai3yxdoLL: pretty good
bai3yxdoLL: do DIY ;x
eCriminal: yah
eCriminal: i did it

Anyways, reminded me of this thread. Here be it, not much. I haven't touched exterior yet (so screwed... that's like $4,000+).

Here's how the interior of my car pretty much looks stock, meaning how it looks out of car lot.

Stock Picture 1 (http://www.acura.com/images/rsx/rsx_gall_lrg_02.jpg)
Stock Picture 2 (http://www.acura.com/images/rsx/rsx_gall_wallpaper05_800x600.jpg)
Stock Shift Knob (http://www.acura.com/images/rsx/rsx_gall_lrg_15.jpg)

Here is how it looks after I made a few changes, hopefully for the better.

New Shift Knob (just tonight!) (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/rsx/aspec_rsx2.jpg)
Door Trim Picture (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/rsx/show_aspec_rsx2.jpg)

I did some DIY on my parents' lawn sprinkler system (new wiring, timing box, etc...) but I won't post pictures of that because most of you will probably find that boring, ahaha.

Yah, gotta find something to do between working, studying, partying, kicking it with friends, and gym-ing (w3rd, I made up a word!).

I used to be into computers (still am), moved onto cars. Give me like five years and I'll start getting into aviation. My local community college offers aviation lessons. I really want to take it once I get some time. :D

I know nothing about cars, but it looks really good whatever you did. :) Aviation? I think there's such a thing as a build-your-own helicopter kit or something. That would be fun. ^^

Yah, after using the new shift knob today, there's a few things I don't like about it. The new shift knob is a bit high (one inch higher than the stock one). The collar also looks pretty ugly. I need to figure out a way to have the shift boot still stay up when I remove the collar.

I hope this works out, ahaha.

SakuraKira

very nice. i like how the trims that you added match the new shift knob. *_* yay for coordination! i do agree with you tho that the collar does seem a bit high, it sort of takes away from the elegance of it :/.

Part came in, took forever to ship from Ohio. Anyways, I mixed and matched the part with some zip ties because the original part wasn't designed for this.

Shift Knob (with old collar) (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/rsx/aspec_rsx2.jpg)
Shift Knob (without collar) (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/rsx/new_shift_knob.jpg)
Shift Knob (without collar, another angle, bad focus) (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/rsx/new_shift_knob2.jpg)

Zip ties rule!

Before (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/compare/compare1.jpg)
After (http://www.coredump.ws/pictures/compare/compare2.jpg)

* 1.25" Suspension Drop (eliminates 4x4 wheel gap)
* Front Lip (looks slightly more aggressive)
* Side Skirts (to match the front lip length)

Total: $1300, DIY: Free (otherwise at least $1000 for install)

w00t! :D

Car is 3 months old, already voided warrenty and street illegal. Early 2005, smog equipment going out the window. Will guzzle more gas and pollute more than a Hummer. :snicker:

God, this is addicting.

Eric

Smog equipment is bad for my motor. :(

A motor is like an air pump. It brings in a lot of air, it spits out a lot of air. When you plug one end of the air pump because of smog equipment, you decrease performance and reliability. It's kinda like inflating a tire with a basketball air pump.

I would like to do some clothes for myself, but I'm not that good with the needle....and I have a really short attention span, so it wouldn't work out either way. :p

My arm is sore. :(
I can imagine why when you look at the result....wow.

Eric
10-26-2004, 02:45 PM
I'm fairly decent with the needle. I stiched myself one time when I cut my arm pretty badly. *shrugs*
