I was just sitting here at my desk at work...not working...thinking very hard about putting some chapstick on my lips. The reason I'm thinking and not doing? I apply chapstick anywhere from 10-I've lost count times a day. I keep a tube in every bag I ever take with me, one in the living room, one in the kitchen, one in my bedroom, one in the office and one in my pocket, and if I can't find one, I go nuts. That's just a little scratch of the surface. So, I'm trying to "quit".

So anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought about chapstick addiction? Do you think it's real or that it's just stupid and made up? What about nasal spray addiction (really, it's just salene which is salt water, but I've heard of people being addicted to that)? Am I just nuts?

XD Hmmm, for me, Chapstick helps... the "Moisturizing" version.. not the flavored ones... cause.. I was using those cherry flavored chapstick before, for my dry lips, and they won't heal @_@ They were still dry and peel off or something. So I got it checked out by the doctor,and he said I should try themoisturizing version (the blue one), so I did... :O and it works. :3 I've never had dry lips again.

OMG, I love that blue one...have you tried the one that's like shiny blue? I forget what it's called, but when you put it on, it feels wet. It's so neato!

Yeah, when my lips are chapped, it helps, but it's so bad that if I don't use chapstick for just a day, then they get chapped. It's probrably a mental thing because I know that when I don't have chapstick, I'm constantly licking and chewing my lips, so that's what's making them chapped, but that's what happens...*sigh*

If I leave my chapstick at home it throws me off because I put it on constantly. Thanks to my allergies my lips are always dry so without it they get cracked and bleed. T_T

I use so much chapstick. I currently have 4 different kinds in my purse at all times: Blue Blistex, Blue Labello (its just the original), A sparkly chapstick my mom bought me from avon- it doesn't do anything at all :(, And Chapstick Brand SPF protectant one. Thus, depending on my lip condition at that time. I use whichever works best.

And they did some study about chapstick's addictiveness and they found that it was just because people got used to having mosturized, healthy lips. So it wasn't that the chapstick was addictive. As long as you don't eat it- then its alllllllll good :D

Oh well, I've gone on for days without using Chapstick, but my lips won't dry up.. at least not more than normal. XD

hmm well it's not really an addiction, it's more like a compulsion, you know? i habit that you are compelled to keep performing...it's amazing the things that people get into the habit of doing over and over and over again

Well, compulsion and addiction go hand in hand. I mean, people become addicted to the strangest things...shoping for example. Addiction isn't just a chemical dependancy, it's also a mental thing. So really, I think it's possible to become addicted to just about anything. But you're probrably right. It's just getting used to having super wet and slippery lips all the time. I'm still trying to cut back though. It's tough!! porem_cry

I use it when I need to. I only carry one around with me during the cold seasons.

Anyway, I never knew people got "addicted" to chapstick.

I do now though. *raises an eyebrow*

Chapstick addiction... Well, there are support groups for everything nowadays. o_O I used to compulsively use Carmex because a medication I was on majorly dried my skin n' lips out, so who knows? Maybe it's not so much as an addiction/compulsion as a habit? XD

Actually there is a support group called Chapstick Anonomyous. But they're dumb. They make you do a 12 step program that's just like AA. They don't give you any real help like things you can do to stop using. You have to do things like "admit to your family and friends that you have a problem" which is just rediculious.

Anyway, I'm better anyway. I just stopped using it every day, and now my lips are fine! Yay! The first week or so was torture though. I highly recommend not getting used to it in the first place if you can help it.

Irony strikes again. o.O; I've been thinking about trying to find mine for a while now. o.x;

I think the addictions much like my addiction to hoodies. You just get used to it after a while. I got so used to the extra weight on my body that I didn't feel comfortable without my hoodie on.
