Suggestions for Metropolis?

As we had announced last month, we'll be upgrading Metropolis. We're waiting for the final release of 3.0, which, according to vbulletin.com (if you can view it that is... it's undergoing a series of ddos attacks... or something), should be soon. With this update, we were thinking of seeing what we can change about the board to make it more fun for members, such as more events or special forums.

So, if you have any suggestions for new things or something that can be changed, please reply. Yes, criticism allowed, as well, but please keep it constructive. Keep in mind we can't implement every idea that members offer, but we will consider those we think could work, and are within our ability to do.

Would it be better if we grouped all the anime related topics under one forum, instead of splitting them up into specialised forums?

And is it too much to ask for the return of the Tarrot names for the forums? Those sound better, IMO.

I like the anime forums split o.O Slightly more organised. Plus hte people who don't wish to view anything slashy can avoid it ^^;;

otherwise I like everything fine the way it is ^_^ (but I also perfer the tarot names :P)

I'm happy with Met's organization & forum choices, and I like the city names because I find them amusing (and we make fun of the American political system!).

Clearly, it's split, we have London, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Jerusalem, that's four anime sub-forums. I think we should merge London, Tokyo and Jerusalem into one but still leave Amsterdam alone for the sake of people that aren't interested in that stuff...such as myself.

Could the "Search" function be improved so if I'm looking for someone's reply, it'll show up and I can go directly to that post or at least that page. Some threads are several pages long :(

if you know what thread the post was in, its not that hard to remember what page you posted your question or whatever is in.

i dont think we should merge the forums. its much more organized this way

On the other hand, I do agree that we can move the Yuki Kaori and CLAMP forums under the general anime forum so that the main page is less cluttered. I think that we will definately do.

It is not too much to ask, but we try to keep the board dynamic (kinda) so we plan to change the names from time to time. It's nothing personal against the orignal forum titles (if it were we would never have chosen them to begin with :p), just that it can be fun to go back to the "omg... where is stuff?!" feeling from time to time. Or maybe it's just me.... @_@...

Our PHP coding skills are at a minimum so for the sake of not screwing up Metropolis by writing buggy code we might just make do with what v3.0 has. But unless I still misunderstood you, I think the current search function does allow this. Just set it so that it returns results as posts rather than threads?

Forgive my stupidity rwen, I have seen the light now. It's just that on the other forum that I browse it's by default to show posts as results. Damn, I look stupid, I think I'll go hide under a hole now :(

i could really be the only lonely creature here thinking it'd be a cool idea, but i'll bring it anyways: how about making a forum for general discussions, but in for instance german? i don't know how many actually speak german though, but... it could be named berlin ^.^ although i don't live in germany, i speak german (i live in switzerland) but if the majority speak japanese (besides english of course) than there could also be a japanese forum for general stuff.

Um, no offence intended, but why bother? Not to imply that I'm against any use of foreign languages in the forums, but I don't see a reason to seperate those non-english posts to another (sub)forum.

just an idea.... This is an English messageboard. English meaning the language not nationality. To have a forum in another language would be discriminative to members who do not speak that language.

I'm finding the changing names rather flustering. One moment it's a bunch of cities, which made sense since this is a metropolis, and now it's candy....which make seemingly no sense at all and I get confused each time i log on. >.< Maybe they should be a little more identifying, hmmm? that text is so teensy and I'm in bad need of glasses. *presses face to monitor*

ppl should get used to the changing of names because they will change again in the future. before cities we used tarot cards and before tarot cards it was constellations. Metropolis was actually not named because of city forum titles, it came from city domain names like zanarkand.net
